The
Easter "La Comunidad" outreach impacted
more than just local people in the apartment building that it was originally
meant to reach, showcasing the creativity of a loving God! I see life
as a huge orchestra with all of us sitting at attention, readying our
instruments with quiet hearts and active minds, set to play for the
Master. What a beautiful picture of violins, cellos, violas, flutes,
and harps. Different instruments in the right place and the right
time. It makes me think of how Gerry Watkins took Claudia and
me to the Baptist Student Ministries at UT Arlington a few weeks ago
with the International Student program where I met a sweet-hearted
Chinese woman named Hua. She caught my attention as we talked about
China. Then the “Conductor” brought Claudia into the conversation. Next,
Gerry and George Watkins opened their home to international students
with Claudia there and a discussion about Easter was struck up. The
connections lead to Hua standing outside of her apartment door as I
went to pick her up to be part of the La Comunidad Easter event. Driving
through the snow (could this be the day before Easter
in North Texas?!?), we had a conversation about God and how he took
care of my son in Korea & China. Hua's eyes lit up as she
came to the realization that “God” could and
did take care of him there. I confirmed, "Yes, I was praying
for God to provide someone to help my son!" Once we arrived
at the Easter event, Ross met and spoke with Hua, then Lisa Sawyers
talked to Hua with much intensity about China and the Bible; next came
Lyndy Beams sharing with Hua, and all the while I was praising God
for these scenes of his orchestra. For the finale, God sent
Kathy Padgett running to the bounce house to tell me that Hua was led
in the prayer of salvation! She is now a believer with new life
in the one true God, Jesus Christ! What an amazing orchestra
God has assembled at 121 Community Church. Several members picked up
their instruments on Easter and played before the King!
Thank
you George and Gerry Watkins, Claudia, Lisa Sawyers, Bob & Lyndy
Beams, Tara Sanchez, Kim, Jaime Blanco, and Bob Bell … and thanks to
all of the volunteers. Thank you for playing so beautifully this Easter;
our Father is pleased – what a beautiful aroma and sound to Him!
The
orchestra at the La Comunidad Easter event consisted of 38 volunteers
from 121 partnering with the apartment manager and staff to serve 80
children and 35 parents. The children and parents rotated through games
and a bounce house, craft and face painting, and the Easter Story along
with a snack, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt and lunch for everyone.
Many people trusted in Christ at the Gospel station and are changed
for eternity, many more children are now connected to La Comunidad,
and many church members and volunteers are very excited to partner
together to grow in La Comunidad!
